About the Film
Directed by David Fisher Winner, Best Documentary, Dokfest Munich
“Rare, revelatory and intensely absorbing.” —Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times
“An emotional journey” —Stephen Holden, The New York Times
“A heartbreaking and wryly humane film” —David Darcy, ArtInfo
Four siblings in search of history set out on a remarkable journey in this eloquent documentary about four adult children of Holocaust survivors. The film also features compelling interviews with American WWII veterans who liberated Gunskirchen. After reading their father’s diary, found only after his death, the three brothers (including director David Fisher) and sister embark on a journey from Israel to Austria that is both literal and psychological. Ultimately, through the craft of Fisher’s storytelling, they become emblematic of the entire second generation who are still grappling with the experience of their survivor parents.
